Queensland’s leading reinsman, Peter McMullan, aka ‘Leader Peter’ has lived up to his nick-name by driving $3.50 second favourite, Uncle Shank to win Race 9 at Albion Park.
The Warrawee Needy colt signalled a big warning to his forthcoming Qbred Triad 2yo opponents by leading all the way to win as he liked – by 12.6m.
Uncle Shank, who is trained by McMullen’s wife Chantal at Patrick Estate, paced the 1,660m mobile in 1:58.4 (1:54.8 mile rate) and his sectionals were 28, 31.1, 29, and 26.9.
It was just Uncle Shank’s second win from three race-day starts. The above average bay is owned by Rob Brumm and was bred by Mark Elmer.
With the win McMullen became the youngest ever driver to notch up 2,000 career wins, and in doing so joins just 26 others in Australian history to achieve the feat.
