Craig Cross and Leonard Cain have done it again! This time the New South Wales-based combo have won the prestigious $21k Wondais Mate Open Pace (R3) at Albion Park with $6.80 win prospect, Cruz (4).
The American Ideal 6-year-old simply ran his nine opponents off their feet, leading all the way and pacing the 1,660m mobile in a slick 1:53.9, which equated to a rapid TRACK RECORD 1:50.4 mile rate. His sectionals were 27.1, 29.2, 27.2, and a slashing 26.5.
Cruz had 4m to spare over Colt Thirty One, with another 4.6m back to Watch Pulp Fiction in third.
It was the brown gelding’s 24th win in 73 starts and he’s now won almost $240,000 in purses.
Cruz is owned by Luke Tabone and was bred by Helen Hayward.
