The talented Jarrod Alchin trained Escalera has given Nathan Dawson an armchair drive, as the $1.50 hot favourite in R4 at Albion Park.
Escalera drew the pole and led throughout the 2,138m mobile stopping the clock in 2:35.1 (mile rate 1:56.7) and his sectionals were 30.1, 31, 27.6, and 27.3. In the end he strolled to an easy 8.6m victory.
The Bettor’s Delight gelding is owned by Tumby Park and was bred by the late Dr Charles Roberts of New Zealand.
He has now won 11 of his 28 starts and placed in seven others for just under $70,000 in purses. That was his second win from five attempts this season.
