Seven days after leading all the way in the Wondai’s Mate Open Pace, the Craig Cross trained and Leonard Cain driven, Cruz (4), has repeated the dose, in the Listed $25k Mr Feelgood Pace (R3 – Albion Park) .
This time the tough son of American Ideal and Close To Heaven proved too strong for Major Cam and Colt Thirty One, winning by 1.1m and 1.4m respectively. He was the $2.20 favourite.
He paced the 2,138m mobile in 2:30.4 (mile rate 1:53.2) and his sectionals were 30, 29.5, 27.3 and 26.6.
Cruz, who is a 6-year-old brown gelding, is owned by Luke Tabone and was bred by Helen Hayward. He’s now had 74 starts for 25 wins and 20 placings ($250,000). Six of those wins have come this season.
